What is Pickleball?

Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. Played on a smaller court with a lower net, it’s easy to pick up but offers plenty of challenge for experienced players. It’s fun, social, and works for all ages and fitness levels – which is exactly why it’s one of the fastest-growing sports in the country.

A few reasons people love it:

  • Low-impact and easy on the joints
  • Quick games that keep things moving
  • Simple enough for beginners, strategic enough for competitive players
  • A great way to get active and meet people

Why Play at The Rec?

Drop-in play means no sign-ups, no commitments – just show up and play. You’ll find a welcoming group of regulars and plenty of room for new faces.

  • Climate-controlled courts (no Texas heat excuses)
  • Well-maintained courts for safe, consistent play
  • Players of all skill levels welcome
  • Three days a week with a flexible morning/midday window

Pickleball is included with most memberships. Non-members can grab a day pass at the door.

Getting Started

  • Check your membership or pick up a day pass
  • Bring non-marking athletic shoes to protect the court surface
  • Don’t have a paddle? Loaner equipment is available
  • Arrive a few minutes early to warm up and find a game

New to Pickleball?

Start with doubles – it’s easier to learn court positioning with a partner. Focus on keeping the ball in play rather than going for big shots, and don’t be shy about watching a few points before you jump in. The regulars here are friendly and happy to help newcomers get the hang of it.

Health Benefits Worth Mentioning

Pickleball is genuinely good for you. It gets your heart rate up, improves balance and coordination, and is much easier on the knees and hips than higher-impact sports. It’s also just good for your mood – there’s something about a fast rally and a good laugh with your opponents that makes the day better.
